What do Allied Health staff do?
Allied Health care professionals are all directly involved with client care in both physical health and mental health settings.
They may:
- Provide treatment for an acutely sick patient in a hospital ward
- Provide rehabilitation for a child following a car crash or an adult who has had a stroke
- Work with a child and their family/whanau to prepare them for surgery or long term treatment for conditions such as cancer
- Work in partnership with children or adults (and their family/whanau) with chronic illness and/or disability to improve functional independence and quality of life and/or provide early childhood education
- Work in partnership with children or adults (and their family/whanau) to identify and/or provide services required for independent living
- Work in partnership with statutory agencies and community groups to protect children and adults who have been abused or are likely to be abused
- Work in partnership to counsel and support patients and families/whanau through major life changes, including death
- Work in partnership with communities and local populations to educate, promote and protect the public health of the community
- Facilitate relationships between the client, their family/whanau and/or other members of the health care team.
