The Allied Health Workforce is made up of a number of regulated and unregulated occupational groups. In general, Allied Health scopes of practice involve client assessment followed by planned intervention and client review in accordance with specific competencies of each occupational group.

Please note, this list is may not be exhaustive, but provides a picture of the larger occupational groups currently employed within DHBs.
Within DHBs the total allied health workforce is compromised of nearly 6,300 individuals or 5,000 FTE positions. The following occupational groups comprise the largest proportion of DHB employed Allied Health workforce: social work (18.1%), occupational therapy (17.7%), physiotherapy (17%) and dental therapy (15%).
