The clerical workforce represents 14% of all DHB employees and therefore plays a huge role in the productivity and day-to-day operations of DHBs. One of the priorities of the Corporate WSG is to look at how this workforce can be developed.
The first step in this process was the inaugural clerical workforce workshop held in August 2008. This was the first workshop of its type focusing on the clerical workforce and was developed in conjunction with the Corporate Workforce Strategy Group and the PSA. Participants included both clerical managers and PSA clerical staff from a representation of DHBs across the country.
There was great enthusiasm from the workshop attendees and this enabled some great discussion around the ideas that people brought to the forum and provided an environment in which a collegial spirit developed.
The workshop provided a forum for sharing of innovation and opportunities for improvement based on real examples. The output of the workshop was the identification of high impact changes that are based on actual examples of great initiatives already underway in the DHBs. The resulting document (below) provides detail of these initiatives and the contact details of the DHB personnel that people can contact to discuss the ideas further and see if these could add value to their DHBs.
