Health Systems and Management for Clinicians (HSMC)
What is HSMC?
HSMC offershealth professionalsthe latest management thinking and opportunities to develop management and leadership skills. It provides a forum to share experience and exchange ideas about the challenges of clinical leadership roles. HSMC helps participants to deal with the complexity of dual clinician and management responsibilities.
Who is HSMC for?
- Health professionals who have a leadership role in their organisation.
- Health professionals who have a part-time management role in their organisation, or are interested in moving into such a position.
Programme Structure:
- To gain maximum participant benefit classes are not to exceed 22 participants.
- As well as the emphasis on leadership and management, HSMC also focuses on understanding how health systems work.
- HSMC will explore how health systems are designed, resourced, staffed, managed and influenced. The programme has a health sector as well as leadership and management theme.
- HSMC is a three-phase course involving a three-day workshop, five months of application on-the-job, then a further three-day workshop.
- HSMC has a staff team of two, who work with participants during the workshops as well as being available between the workshops.
- Participants may wish to join national special interest groups, which address common issues about clinical management and leadership.
- We expect that participants will share their learning with colleagues as part of the HSMC programme.
