Background
In July 2005 the Minister of Health announced new funding for DHBs nationwide to establish Nursing Entry to Practice programmes. New Graduate programmes are now offered in all DHBs around the country, but vary in length and content.
The programme is jointly funded by the Ministry of Health and DHBs.
DHBs have been investing in new graduate programmes for a number of years. The new funding will add to this investment and ensure NETP programmes are delivered nationally to a consistently high standard.
The Clinical Training Agency (CTA) will fund $6,000 per graduate in a placement, to subsidise some of the DHBs estimated costs in offering the programme. It is intended to fund programme coordination, study day and development release for graduates and preceptors and support for workload sharing between preceptor and graduate. There is also additional funding set aside to assist with the education delivery and establishment of the programme.
