Radiology Workforce Innovation
The Technical and Scientific Workforce Strategy Group has identified the Radiology Workforce as a priority workforce.
A collaborative workshop was held in 2007 to explore MRT role extension. The workshop was attended by stakeholder groups including:
New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technologists (NZIMRT)
Medical Radiation Technology Board (MRTB)
Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR)
Ministry of Health
BreastScreen Aotearoa
DHBs (DHBNZ)
The workshop was facilitated by Professor Audrey Patterson, Director of Professional Policy, Society and College of Radiographers, UK. The workshop was co-hosted by DHBNZ, NZIMRT and UNITEC. Professor Patterson was sponsored by UNITEC.
Workshop attendees agreed to continue to progress the concept of MRT (diagnostic) role extension with breast screening a priority service area.
The Project Team keenly awaits the final report of the NZIMRT into medical imaging role extension pilots.
