‘Change in Primary Care – New Zealand Experiences’ - a valuable insight into the primary health sector.
DHBNZ change in primary care November 2008
The PHCS Implementation Programme commissioned the articles in ‘Change in Primary Care’ to increase understanding of what’s going on in primary care and to stimulate discussion about how best to achieve the goal of improved health outcomes.
The four articles in ‘Change in Primary Care’ chart the progress of the Primary Health Care Strategy since it was released in 2001.
Primary care is vital to improving health outcomes and the strategy works to improve the health of all New Zealanders in the community – to reduce chronic disease, improve immunisation rates and access to care - and make sure fewer Kiwis end up in hospitals.
The particular value of these articles describe how GPs, nurses and other primary health professionals and organisations have experienced and implemented change. They talk about the many successful innovations to be shared as well as the barriers to change which need to be overcome.
‘Changes in Primary Care’ provides a valuable insight into the primary health sector and adds to the body of NZ primary care knowledge.
It is hoped it will inform ongoing discussions about how to best keep New Zealanders healthy and out of hospital.
