This e-Register was created in 2007 an informal mechanism to foster the sharing of information and showcasing of ideas and initiatives within the primary health care sector, particularly those which help to progress the vision of the Primary Health Care Strategy.
This site provides short descriptions and brief details of such initiatives, as well as contact information of for individuals who may be approached for further information.

The Rural Innovation Fund (RIF) was set up to assist and support rural health practices in delivering effective services and programmes. Specifically, the RIF supports innovation in rural health. Its establishment was in response to a perceived need for one-off funding to allow the development of good ideas and new ways of doing things.

Some of the challenges faced by rural midwifery practitioners and providers in New Zealand are different from those faced in urban areas. The Ministry of Health has provided Rural Midwifery Innovation Funding (RMIF) to support, encourage and enable innovation in rural midwifery service delivery.

This fund, launched in September 2009, supports the aspirations of He Korowai Oranga (the Māori Health Strategy) and aims to advance whānau ora by supporting Māori service providers to develop and implement initiatives that effectively meet the health needs of whānau, hapū, iwi and their wider communities.
Over the next four years the Fund will invest a total of $20 million in the design, development, promotion and delivery of innovative whānau ora driven health services.

The Men's Health Innovations Fund was a one-off fund established in 2008 to support community based men's health initiatives. Funding was given to projects with new and innovative approaches to improving men's health in communities across the country.

A series of ‘Primary Mental Health Initiatives’ were funded by the Ministry of Health and were conducted between June 2005 and November 2007. The funding was allocated through the Primary Health Care Strategy, in response to a recognised the need for development of primary mental health services in New Zealand.

Eleven nursing innovations supporting the development of new models of primary care nursing practice and fostering nurse leadership were funded by the Ministry of Health from January 2004 to mid-2006. A September 2007 evaluation reported on the varying levels of success across the 11 innovations.

The Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) was established in 2008 under the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales. The AIHI brings together three UNSW research Centres working in separate but related areas of clinical governance, clinical practice and health services research and health informatics.
