Where next for primary health organisations in NZ Sept09
Where next for PHOs?, by Judith Smith and Jacqueline Cumming, published on line September 2009.
This paper sets out a synthesis of five reports commissioned by District Health Boards New Zealand and the Ministry of Health as part of the ‘Change in Primary Care – New Zealand Experiences’ project.
It focuses on the next stage of development for primary health organisations (PHOs) in New Zealand, what needs to change, and how the effectiveness of PHOs might be assessed.
Another paper by the same author expands on and provides background for the Where Next for PHOs? paper.

A series of four research papers was also published in September 2009, by the Health Services Centre of Victoria University in Wellington (http://www.victoria.ac.nz/hsrc/reports/media.aspx).
Funded by the Ministry of Health, ACC and the Health Research Council, the papers focus on the activities of general practices, issues relating to patient fees, and the development and roles of PHOs in the primary healthcare system from 2001:
